Sharing the Gospel With Kids

As parents of a 3 1/2-year-old and a 2-year-old, we are often seeking out new resources to help us share the gospel with our kids. Bible story books, children's Bibles, and Sunday School at church are great, but it's often difficult to just sit down and share with little ones all that Christ has accomplished on the cross for those who will put their trust in him.

While on an out-of-town trip, Rusty discovered a new series of books written for small children that address: the gospel, the trinity, the Bible, and missions (4 individual books, or you can buy the set). He brought the one on the gospel home for the girls, and we have LOVED it! At first we wondered if it was too "wordy" for their attention, even though it had great theology. But they really love listening to it. The target audience is technically 4-8 years old, I think, but any parent of a preschooler who likes to read Curious George, Berenstain Bears, etc... types of books will not find the reading level much different. Even our 2-year-old has requested it!

Perhaps most endearing to the kids is the fact that each book is "narrated" by a particular character with a name who shares the story with the reader. Our girls already ask for "Gracie" by name (the character from Big Thoughts for Little Thinkers: The Gospel). We just received the other three in the mail, and they already identify the other books by their characters as well.

The series is called "Big Thoughts for Little Thinkers" and can be ordered individually or in a set of four, or found in some local Christian bookstores. You can view sample pages at the following web address: http://www.amazon.com/Gospel-Big-Thoughts-Little-Thinkers/dp/0892216174# If you're interested in ordering online, we found http://www.blogger.com/www.christianbook.com to have the cheapest rate when you buy the set of four books and use the cheapest shipping option. Though it says it can take 1-2 weeks, we received ours in just a few days.

It's been a wonderful resource for us, so we wanted to share it with you! Happy reading!
